Carlos D., the bassist from Interpol is tall, photogenic, and with a jawline carved from something solid. He’s also possibly the most interesting bassist I’ve had the pleasure of shooting. This photo was taken on the Antics tour in July/August 2005.
This night was capped off by heading to Bar Open in Northbridge where Carlos was spinning a mix of tunes, and an early morning flight to Byron Bay to Splendour in the Grass (where Interpol were also playing, among a host of other great acts). This was followed by a week in Melbourne where I caught Billy Corgan’s (Smashing Pumpkins) solo album tour (thus passing up Interpol’s first Melbourne show on this run), saw another post-gig DJ session, and then caught their second Melbourne show the following night.
Truth be told, the Perth show was average, the Splendour set was boring (Bloc Party, touring on Silent Alarm, owned that day), and the second Melbourne show was actually really good. Still, well worth the time, well worth the snaps, well worth the memories.
