The Sleepy Jackson @ The Bakery Artrage Complex, Northbridge, Western Australia

The Sleepy Jackson have a complex history. They’ve had more members than many bands have played gigs. They constantly push themselves to outdo themselves in both performance, and musical style. And mostly, they’re just from the brain of one man, Luke Steele.
This was taken at the Perth album launch for their second record, “Personality - One Was a Spider, One Was a Bird”. Earlier in their career, Steele was known for his short temper at equipment failures, and this was thought to be muted when during the launch for their first album “Lovers”, Steele calmly put a faulty pedal at the side of the stage.
This time, the pedal in question wasn’t so lucky.
If I recall correctly, it was three throws to the stage floor, and ended up in the hands of a lucky fan. For the record, this was the first throw.
The Sleepys, as they’re known around these parts, have been dormant for some time, but frontman Luke Steele has been busy with his latest project Empire of the Sun, who are about to play their debut shows, on the back of a record that’s been rather successful over the past year.
Not one for the road well travelled, that Steele, but a talented character for sure.
