Queens of the Stone Age @ V Festival, Perth, Western Australia
6th April 2008 | Canon 400D
Once again from the V Festival, honestly because I’m feeling a little lazy tonight and don’t want to have to trek through all the archives.
I probably should have posted a shot of Josh Homme to follow on from yesterday’s post, but fuck it. This one’s better.
A solid set from QOTSA at the inagural Perth V Festival, if lacking the punched up rendition of “Monsters in the Parasol” played in Adelaide supporting The Smashing Pumpkins. Besides the giant redheaded man with the sneer of a lifetime, the best thing to watch was bassist Michael Shuman. I remember thinking at the time that he had a similar stage presence to Aaron North (formerly of LA punk rock band The Icarus Line, at that point the recently-departed guitarist of Nine Inch Nails).
The next week I find out they’re in a band called Jubilee together. While Queens of the Stone Age aren’t doing too much at the moment, Jubilee are getting their debut album together, coming out through Buddyhead Records, so go have a listen to their recent singles. You remember Buddyhead. They caused shit on (and off) the internet before blogs like this were around. Released some cool records too. Go buy something from ‘em, because they’ve gone digital, aren’t playing the iTunes game, and are hooked in with TopSpin, who’re doing some amazing things with online distribution.
And their gossip section can kick Perez Hilton’s ass better than a BEP manager.
